Ha..haha my mum always had us to do the task ~ plucking the roots off the bean sprouts. I'm lazy, too! Then my sis & me came up with excuse that, there's where most of the 'minerals/nutrients' are in the sprouts, so now, we'll just wash them clean & cook =)

Wendy - thanks!

Jenmoocat - I appreciate your kind comments :) My grandma is "cleaning" those sprouts. She picks the little wiry end of the sprout off. It's not necessary. I dare admit that I, lazy girl, don't pluck those ends off. I just wash them and then toss them into a stir-fry or add them raw. Although, when I was a little girl, I used to sit with Grandma at the table and pluck the ends when she was preparing dinner. So don't feel like you have to pluck the ends off, although it does look better :)

Love your blog -- the words and the photos.
And -- let me tell you -- cooking for one can be exhausting even if you aren't in your 80s!
In the picture of your Gran cleaning the mung sprouts --- what exactly is she doing?
What is she doing that I need to do?
I recently decided I want to have their crunch more often, so bought a bag....
But, not having a Chinese grandmother, I don't know the best way to deal with them before cooking.
Thanks!
