my way
I had a pulled pork sandwich piled with coleslaw today. Oh boy, that is good. So good.

At last, we were able to find a day when we could get Madge and Bondy up to our place for dinner. Unfortunately, Marcus and the kids went camping, so we missed them – but I thought it was more important to grab the opportunity to see Madge and Bondy who seem to be infinitely busier than all of us combined.
I tried two new recipes for today: a strawberry buttercream vanilla chiffon cake which I sort of made up on the fly, and an artichoke and spinach white lasagne. The cake was a total hit. Tom even had a piece – and he doesn’t eat strawberries. The lasagne I’m not so fond of and I think it’s because the bechamel sauce was just bland. I added nutmeg, salt, pepper, white wine, and lemon juice to it, but still tasted dull to me.

Everything happened to come together early for us so we didn’t have to rush around. We actually got to enjoy chatting with everyone and even sat down for appetizers with our guests.

We drank a couple of nice big red new world wines with the meal – one Chilean and one Aussie. The Chilean paired so nicely with our appetizer plate. We took appetizers indoors, but moved out to the deck for dinner and dessert. It was somewhat overcast, which was nice so no one got blinded by the setting sun.

It was good fun all around, even for Evi who is an incredibly self-entertaining child. She behaves remarkably well for a 5 year old hanging out with a bunch of old farts like us.
Heard about the big storms off of eastern Oz. Kell, hope you and Jerad are alright and safe. Do let us know that you are okay when you can.
