finish it off

Even though Jeremy’s cold is nearing an end, the final symptoms are pretty miserable. His eyes are watering a lot today and the drainage from his sinuses is never-ending – add to that incessant sneezing. Of course, Jeremy has been a total sport about the whole thing, never complaining and even offering to drive me into town if I wanted to run errands. I told him to just stay put and rest up. And Miss Kaweah hasn’t been feeling all that hot either with a random episode in the yard this afternoon. My team is under the weather!

I am still waking at the crack of dawn each day. I think it must be the increase in daylight hours, I have real issues with sleeping while it is light out. At least I’m letting Jeremy sleep in while I get up and take care of stuff around the house. I had a lot of leftover shrimp filling for potstickers, so I resumed using it up today.

two pounds of filling will yield about 6 dozen potstickers

Ro is such an ubergeek. She sent me a sketchup plan of a potential wedding cake design. Love it.

Boom boom. Our afternoon thunderstorm cycle is in swing now. The rain is great! I want to get a cistern for the deck and hook a hose up to it to use on the baby trees and plants below. It would not only collect rain water, but is a great place for me to store rinse water (from vegetables and fruit), boil water (boiled eggs, blanched vegetables…) and warm up water (for the shower). That and composting make me incredibly happy. When we can one day afford the solar panel installation, I’ll be flipping ecstatic.

As always, I can never get the precise amount of dough needed for given filling volume. This time, I used the excess dough for scallion pancakes. I think I need to work harder to record family recipes – particularly Grandma’s because she has so many and she’s 85. The great thing is that Grandma’s mind is completely in tact and she’s one smart cookie. I’ll be visiting her this summer with Elena, so hopefully we’ll do some more bonding across 3 generations and Elena can translate some of the harder Chinese to me.

i made everything in the picture except the table
