overlap
The local ski hill reported 3 inches of snow. I set off this morning to see what I could capture of the overlap of seasons. It is one of the highlights of living in the mountains when the first snowfall manages to sneak in before all of the aspens have turned bare. I was surprised to see as much color as I did… but the stripped aspen trunks are quite beautiful in their own right.
Anyway, I don’t have the time for a recipe tonight since I am swamped this week. So hopefully the pictures from this morning will tide you over until tomorrow. You can see a few more shots on the photo blog. NaBloWriMo is still going strong!

Glorious indeed– aspens, elk graffiti, everything :) Yay for being swamped! Just the way you like, right? ;) I’ve never made a snowman before– miniature or otherwise.

Truly gorgeous! Thanks for sharing! We ended up making a snow bear here (UT), but that little snowman at the outlook is so cute. Good luck with your busy week.

How nice! Overlap of seasons is something I will never experience in Singapore. I mean summer cant overlap itself, can it? ;) The snowman is indeed adorable!

It was a lovely Monday despite the storm and the lingering chill. You caught it in all its glory!

My favourite is the aspen trunks… and the tiny snowman! My husband is chomping at the bit for snow. We are having a very mild autumn and while the Alps are gorgeous, no snow yet! We spent Sunday in the mountains hunting for chestnuts and it was 25°C and sunny and soooo beautiful!

Beautiful. I love them all. That snowman is adorable and makes me want winter. Love the graffiti.

I have been in a “non-weight bearing” situation with a badly broke ankle (healing very well I’m happy to say) for 6 weeks. My “job” during this time has been to search out recipes for my husband to cook…:-) and of course, in that process, came across your great “cookbook” illustrated with food and your life. Great combo. I’ve always said, what in life do we do that doesn’t focus around the food in our life…celebrations and mournings, daily doings….it’s all better with good food. And that means real butter for us too!
I’ve read your whole blog, looked at all the pics and now a daily peek is part of my routine, much like the crossword.
Since one of my hobbies is to “read” cookbooks/recipes, (and yes, both my best-friend husband and I cook too) I have looked at many of the other food blogs as listed on your site, as well as others (and ye gads there are about a ga-zillion). Having spent many hours looking, I feel qualified to say yours is absolutely and by far, the best. From the artistic perfection of your photography to the step-by-step recipes; from your recipe/cooking observations to the peeks into your personal life -joys and dramas- that you allow us, your blog it is an excellent balance of food, life and photography.
Years ago, before blogging time and shortly after my mom passed away, I started recording my favorite recipes for our combined families. My sis and I were asking each other, “do you have Mom’s recipe for…? and found we often did not have her recipes. So now I have lots of tried and true recipes…some are family recipes, others, new ones we have come across and loved. I love adding the “experience” commentary, like “Mom used ….but I use blah, blah, blah…” or “I find that ……” which is one of the things I love about your recipes.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to create such a quality site – it’s a living breathing cookbook, ezine, photo journal.
