![Scenes from the past 2 weeks: 1) My red epiphyllum oxypetalum (red cereus or red Queen of the Night) had 3 blooms this week! Here’s the double-headed bloom. Each one remained open for 48 hours unlike its white-flowered cousin which only blooms at night for about 12 hours. 2) [video] It’s BABY ANIMAL SEASON!! Look who showed up right outside our (dirty) mudroom window one morning - mama moose and her little baby 🥰 3) Lovely Father’s Day lunch on Friday in Boulder.
4) Finally did our initial “burn in” white bread run on the freeze dryer we received in May but never had a chance to test until this weekend. Eventually I’ll start freeze-drying my freezer stash of huckleberries and make other things (dog snacks, ingredients for baking, wild mushrooms), but I bought some skittles and gummy bears to try Candy Mode for fun. Originals on the left, freeze-dried on the right. The skittles are great (crunchy). The gummy bears were a goddamn mess and ranged from puffy (like the red one) to the sugar equivalent of fiberglass bubbles that stuck to the shelves.
5) We have entered summer in the mountains. The leaves carry proper greens 🌿 and streams flow swiftly with raging snow melt. Our soundscape has ballooned with the arrival of So Many Birds! 6) I can’t tell if the morels are just stringing me along or what. 7) Doesn’t matter how fast, how far, or how high I run - it matters that I get out there and live my life 💕 8) Here’s the non-selfie version of dwarf larkspurs blooming their little hearts out as Paradise Divide prepares to shed the rest of her winter mantle. 9) Jeremy is totally unfazed to round the corner and see me crouched on the side of the trail filming him.
10) Upgrades! After ten years of crawling speeds in Crested Butte, we finally have proper (good, fast, not Century Link) internet service which we set up at the end of May. We also retired the refrigerator and dishwasher (originals - 17 years old) and replaced them with better quality, more energy efficient models. #yukipup for scale.](https://userealbutter.com/wp-content/plugins/instagram-feed/img/placeholder.png)
