burnt sugar

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Tonight I got a hankering for burnt sugar. I love caramelized sugar and I realized that may also be why I like toasted marshmallows – burnt sugar! Flan is a perfect vehicle for caramelized sugar. I think I also just want to get a lot of practice working with candying sugar because I want to become proficient enough at elevation that I don’t have to worry about bricking it. The cool thing was when I coated the pan – it ended up (unintentionally) with a pretty neat pattern.

freaking out

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I think I’m losing my mind. It’s hard to concentrate without feeling pangs of anxiety.

Kaweah hates us now. We’ve been neglecting her since we both have ridiculous amounts of work to do. She stares at us with such contempt.

I took a break this morning and made another batch of bread pudding to use up the cheese and eggs, this time with bacon and without marjoram. Delish.

We had horizontal snow today. Horizontal snow = snow + winds.

We had carrot cake today too. I sent Jeremy over to Kellie and Tom’s house with one. I’ll send another to Marcus’ house tomorrow.
