So far, Whistler has racked up more bad points than good for me, but I’ll get to those later.

This morning Jeremy and I went to hike Joffre Lakes while my parents were at some time share sales pitch. The hike was nice at first and then it became steep and rocky and rooty and muddy and… The humidity was near 100% and it rained on and off (the rain wasn’t so bad, actually). It was warm for my tastes and incredibly buggy. We broke out some DEET and made our way up to the middle lake. It was the stunning aqua color of a glacier-fed alpine lake and the cool breeze coming off the glacier and the lake felt fantastic. This felt a lot like New Zealand – fun #2 with a lot of eye candy.

seattle part 1: beautiful

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Don’t ever count on purchasing a new electronic gadget and getting to bed by a reasonable hour that same night. Won’t happen in our house anyway. Jeremy was noodling with the iphone while I gathered information for our trip to Seattle and before we knew it, midnight was fast approaching by the time we were done packing. Not a big deal, getting to bed at midnight, except we had to get on the road in three and a half hours. Oy!

The drive to the airport and subsequent zombie walk through security went off without a hitch, hurrah! I was planning to get about 2 more hours of sleep on the flight, but I was seated next to a talker – a very friendly talker at that – but a talker nonetheless. Jeremy admonished me in the car on the way to Tacoma that I should have shut down the conversation to get a nap, “You’re very good at that, I’m surprised you didn’t.” Yeah, I couldn’t find it to shut this woman off though, she was so nice and knew so much about both Boulder and Seattle. Besides, she wanted to know why there were volcanoes in the Pacific NW, and I can’t pass up an opportunity to turn someone on to science!

We drove to Tacoma because I had been wanting to see Chihuly’s work for a few years now. Remember that I, the parrot, am dazzled by bright, colorful objects – particularly glass. That would be Chihuly. I dragged Jeremy to Tacoma to see the Bridge of Glass and then the Museum of Glass. We got there a little before the museum opened.

frasca

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Well, it’s only been six months since my last restaurant review! Considering the extravagant dining I (we) did in Sydney this past spring, I might hazard to say that June is a little early to be indulging in the good stuff again. But…

I had heard from a director at my old workplace that Frasca had a disappointing Community Night. It was unfortunate that this was the first impression I got of Frasca because that person has neither taste nor sense (nor ethics, as we later discovered – but apparently the board of directors don’t seem to care if their people are unethical). Frasca doesn’t put on a Comm Night like The Kitchen, they have a prix fixe tasting menu on Monday nights paired with wines. Then I read that Frasca was voted best restaurant in Boulder. I’m always a little skeptical of what Boulderites vote “best of” for food just because this is technically the Midwest – on the flats – and you know what I think of mid-western culinary culture. More recently, Tom told me that his friend said he had the best meal of his life at Frasca. My curiosity was piqued!
