happy hours, days, weeks, months, years

I’ve turned the corner on this whole quitting my job and not having one anymore thing. Feeling better about things and able to function again.

This afternoon I drove into Boulder to run a few errands and meet up with Jeremy for happy hour. A half hour later, Beth joined us! Happy hour for me is definitely more about the food than the booze. We ordered some shrimp, some crab, some calamari, some fondue, and then… a sundae.

beth digs into the gruyère fondue – more like fun-do!

It’s always great to see Beth because she is so genuinely happy to see you. If she were a dog, she’d be a golden retriever with a tail that never stops wagging. Good food and good company – the winningest combination.

And when we got home, I got Ender’s Game in the mail from Megan! Thanks Megan!! Add to that, the latest issue of Fine Cooking – mmmmmm.

by all accounts (Jeremy, Megan, and Auna), a classic of science fiction

I bought preserved salted turnip today at the Boulder Asian grocer. I had to ask where it was because I don’t know my Thai ingredients so well. The lady who works the store is so Asian – her normal conversation volume is the same as a military drill sergeant except in short, choppy, forceful barks hurled at 100 mph. “WHAYOULOOKFOR!?” After I’m done paying, she always cracks a pained smile and a nod as if to say, “Now get out.” I think she likes me.
