some pics to tide you over

My health is nearly back to normal (gosh, these sinus infections take their time to skidaddle) thanks to plenty of rest and probably all of the love and pampering from my parents. Jeremy arrived on Thursday and my parents have really rolled out the red carpet because they are so fond of him. Well, it’s not like I’m chopped liver, but you should have heard my mother bemoaning his short visit earlier this week, “We only have TWO dinners with Jeremy – how can we possibly treat him to all of the restaurants and home meals we have planned?”

lovely sunset from my parents’ deck

When I watch my parents cook, it makes me realize where my love for food and cooking comes from. Acorn. Tree. Anyhow, we’ve had a lovely time hanging out in Williamsburg tasting lots of terrific wines and noshing on the best food. It even snowed a centimeter – how cute! Enjoy some photos and I’ll see you back here when I return to Colorado. Cheers!

Love that second look from the parrot. Piercing, yet hilarious at the same time.

That sandwich with the extra house looks miiiighty good. I read about after you spoke of it elsewhere. Sounds heavenly.

Oh, I don’t know how I missed that you are in Williamsburg. Sweet, I’m in Hampton (don’t know why that’s cool but I think it is anyway…). I hope you’re feeling 100% soon.

  8. Kristin says:

Looks like a fun time. Glad you were feeling better & could enjoy it. I think I should research that house dressing. Wonder if it would be good on the turkey & provolone we’re having for lunch. I was eyeing the roast beef, darn it!

  9. TheKitchenWitch says:

Glad you are on the mend, honey. As always, pictures are stunning!

glad you’re tip-top again. nothing puts a damper on the new year more than being under the weather! wish i could stop at that cheese shop today — Corpus Christi lacks greatly in culinary treats; fine cheese being one of them.

cheers and all the best in 2010,

    *heather*

I’m glad you’re feeling better and your pics are wonderful. I love that they adore Jeremy. That’s always nice when your family likes your spouse/partner–makes life so much easier. (Until they start thinking first about what to feed him instead of me!)

  14. Nicola says:

Have you ever heard about Alex, the African Grey Parrot who was the “friend” and study subject of Irene Pepperberg? Check it out here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_(parrot). Amazing story in many ways.

  15. Jill says:

Glad you are feeling better…hope the air is pure on the plane ride home!

  16. Mrs ErgΓΌl says:

  17. Kate says:

Recent William & Mary alum here. Seeing your pic of the Cheese Shop and its sandwiches made me nostalgic for college (and a turkey-provolone-on-whole-wheat).

  18. jenyu says:

Definitely feeling much better now – thank you, everyone! The parrot, Beauregard, belongs to my parents’ friends. He is amazing – just a beautiful and inquisitive and playful fellow. I could play with him for days! For those curious about the house dressing… my friends and I have been trying to recreate it on and off for years. Here is one attempt: http://userealbutter.com/2008/11/16/house-dressing-recipe/

And thanks to all of the locals (past and present) who dropped by to say hi!! xoxo

Nicola – yes! I’ve read about Alex and heard many stories about him over the years. So sad that he’s gone :(

  19. Krista says:

Exquisite photos! So glad you’re feeling a bit better. :-)

  20. Tony says:

Everything was good until I saw the photo of the african parrot o_O One of my good friends growing up had one as a pet and that thing hated me — in fact, he hated everyone except my friend. You’re right about how smart they are too. One day the parrot escaped from its huge mansion-style cage, flew to the top of the stairs and waited until I was halfway up (too far to jump down, but not far enough to make it to the top) and it beamed straight at me. It was very traumatizing :P
That sandwich looks really good as I think about what I should have for a late lunch. Happy New Year, Jen!! :D
