flagstaff house

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

When Jeremy was short-listed with CU Boulder, I told him if he got an offer, we would go to the Flagstaff House for dinner. Right after I told him this, I realized I shouldn’t have said anything because if he didn’t get an offer, I wouldn’t feel we could ever go there for fear of any lingering guilt on his part. Good thing he got an offer!

Yesterday I had a conversation that went like this:
me: nice hair cut, john!
john: why thanks, jen. i figured if i might be heading out to tonga, i should probably get it cut
me: it looks great. what does your wife think?
john: oh, uh – she left about three months ago
me: [confused] where did she go?
john: well, she decided she liked england more than me
me: [hamsters running in wheels in head] oh… oh! i’m so sorry!
john: not to worry, i’m getting on with my life
me: i’m really sorry, john…

Jeremy said I have a knack for asking these sorts of questions.

The company was a ghost town today. Half of the people were out. Some of us went to Longmont for lunch at the Martini Bistro. Great food and their salads are terrific. We opted to avoid Pearl Street because Boulder was a zoo thanks to graduation.

dining out for life

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Tonight we met with Tom, Kellie, Bondy, and Madge for dinner at Full Moon Grill. We picked tonight because it is Dining Out for Life night. Several hundred restaurants in the Denver-Boulder area participated this evening by sponsoring this event for Project Angel Heart. The restaurants pledged that 25% of their food bills today would go to support Project Angel Heart which provides healthy meals to men, women, and children living with AIDS/HIV, cancer, and other life-threatening illnesses. The food was great as usual (although Jeremy’s lobster gnocchi appetizer was a tad salty). Everyone loved their food and we had a great time catching up on Ned politics, gross-out stories from Madge’s medical training, gross-out stories of mercy killing furry dying animals, and arguing over who exactly is considered a gen-Xer.
